Sachiyo Ito & Company

Mission
Founded in 1981 as a performing and educational not-for-profit organization 501-(c)-3, Sachiyo Ito and Company is dedicated to creating a bridge between the United States and Japan through artistic performances and educational exchange programs that promote Japanese culture through the arts, particularly dance.

History
The Company performs and teaches classical dance forms including Kabuki, Noh, Okinawan Court, and Jiuta-mai, and presents contemporary works choreographed by Sachiyo Ito, which preserve the aesthetics of traditional Japanese dance. The Company has performed at Japan Society, Asia Society, and Lincoln Center, among others.

Established as a school of various forms of Japanese dance in New York City, Sachiyo Ito and Company offers programs including school residency, Japanese Culture Through Dance, which brings the arts of Japan into the classroom; workshops that acquaint students with Japanese dance and theater such as Noh, Kabuki, and Okinawan dance; full concerts which can include lecture-demonstrations; Japanese dance classes for all levels and private lessons. Three times a year, the Company offers  the Salon Series, an ongoing series of informative lecture-demonstrations and performances on the performing arts of Japan.

The Office of the Mayor has officially proclaimed October 23. 2011 as “Sachiyo Ito and Company Day” in the city of New York. [view proclamation]. The proclamation was presented to Sachiyo Ito and Company by the Mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg at the Anniversary concert.
