Salon Series No.73, Japanese Folktales and Kabuki Dances, will showcase Japanese folktales and Kabuki dances with the folktale storyteller Motoko on Sunday October 23 rd at 3pm at Tenri Cultural Institute, New York.
The featured stories will be Urashima Taro, Yamanba (Old Women in the
Mountain), and Hagoromo (Angel’s Robe). Sachiyo Ito will perform Kabuki
dances: Nagauta Urashima, Tokiwazu Yamanba (Yamameguri), and Nagauta
Matsu no Hagoromo (Angel’s Robe at the Pine).
Jonathan Frye and Dinh Doan will also make special appearances.
Time: Sunday October 23rd, 2022 at 3pm
Venue: Tenri Cultural Institute NYC Between 5th and 6th Avenue

Salon Series is an ongoing program of informative lectures, lecture-demonstrations and performances aimed on the arts and culture of Japan. The series is held on Sunday afternoons three times a year. In an informal forum setting, and with world class guest artists and experts, the series has entertained and educated New York audiences for the last 25 years.

さろんシリーズ第73回は「日本の説話と舞踊」と題して, Motoko氏をゲストに迎えて上演します。昔話の浦島太郎と山姥、そして羽衣伝説 のお話に平行して歌舞伎舞踊三作品、 長唄「浦島」、常磐津「山姥(山巡り)」、長唄「松廼羽衣」の抜粋を踊ります。
さろんシリーズは、舞踊に重点を置きながら、日本の伝統芸能に対する理解を多くの方々に深めていただこうと言うのが主旨で、年に3回、日曜の午後に開かれます。日本の舞踊、演劇、音楽に興味のある方、また勉強していらっしゃる方々を対象に、Q/Aの場、楽しい意見交換のフォーラムを提供していくことを意図しています。
